Fewer Than Eight Weeks Left on Amodei's 2026 Prediction: A Public Scoreboard of One-Person Companies Is Open

Anthropic's chief executive said the first billion-dollar company with one person would arrive in 2026. The Vibesies, a free public board, measures every company of one by the same plain yardstick and will publish a verdict on 31 December.

In May 2025, at Anthropic's first developer conference, the company's chief executive, Dario Amodei, was asked when the first billion-dollar company with a single human employee would appear. He answered: 2026. That year ends on 31 December. The Vibesies (vibesies.com), a free public board from Archieboy Holdings, LLC of Marlborough, Massachusetts, is keeping score in the open until then, and its founder, Bo Bennett, PhD, will publish a short verdict on 31 December on whether the prediction came true.

The honest state of play: no one-person company has been verified anywhere near the line. Reports of solo companies earning large sums appear every few months, but they are hard to check from the outside. A screenshot of a dashboard, a valuation from a token that trades on hype, or "one founder" who quietly employs forty contractors would not count.

The best-known claim so far is Medvi, the telehealth company profiled by The New York Times in April, with sales reported to be on pace for $1.8 billion this year. At the time it was reported to have two employees, its founder and his younger brother. The Vibesies' published rule is one human owner and nobody else working for the company full-time, whether on payroll or as a contractor, so by that rule the line has not yet been crossed by a company of one. Whether Amodei was right may come down to how strictly "one person" is read, and that is the question the 31 December verdict will answer.

The yardstick

  • One plain measure for everyone. A company's value on the board is four times its yearly revenue. By that yardstick, a billion-dollar company of one needs about $250 million a year in revenue.
  • Ranges, not figures. Founders enter their average monthly revenue privately. It is never published; the board shows each company only in a generous value range, with milestones along the way from first revenue to $1 billion.
  • Checked before anyone celebrates. Companies whose range has been checked are marked as verified, and any company that reaches the finish line will be verified before it is announced.
  • Free to enter. Entry takes about two minutes and costs nothing.
"Dario Amodei gave the world a deadline, and somebody ought to keep score. Honestly, nobody can say yet whether he will be right, because until now nobody was counting. So we built a public board with one plain yardstick, four times yearly revenue, and we will check any claim before anyone celebrates. On 31 December I will write the verdict either way. In the meantime, the people trying this deserve a scoreboard and a cheering section, not just a prediction," said Bo Bennett, PhD, founder of Archieboy Holdings.

Sam Altman of OpenAI has described a betting pool among his fellow technology chief executives on the year the first one-person billion-dollar company arrives; he has not, as far as The Vibesies can find, said which year he picked. Both men run companies that sell the AI such a founder would rely on. Small teams have built very valuable companies before: Instagram had 13 employees when Facebook agreed to buy it for $1 billion in 2012. What is new is that the jobs a small team used to share out, such as writing code, answering customers, keeping the books and running marketing, can increasingly be handed to software that does the work.

Founders running a company of one can enter it at vibesies.com. Who predicted the one-person billion-dollar company, and how The Vibesies will tell when it has really happened, is explained at vibesies.com/one-person-billion-dollar-company. Reporters writing a year-end piece on the prediction can ask Bo Bennett for comment or for the 31 December verdict note.
